Mother Caldwell

MOTHER CALDWELL. Forceful and charismatic, Regina Caldwell is running for governor on a platform of rock-rib conservative values. Her son Eric is gay, though he’s hiding it from her with less and less conviction. One night he meets Byron, a reclusive autodidact whose best friend Althea blackmails Eric into getting her a job on his mother’s campaign. Dressed in full Young Republican drag and armed with a tab of acid, Althea sets in motion a chain of events that sends all of them spinning into unknown territory, and what began as political satire morphs into a darkly comic exploration of the fragile nature of identity.
